The races between Superman and the Flash that DC used to do all the time were always such bullshit because the Flash has to win every race. The Flash has to win otherwise there is no point to the Flash. He is the definition of speed. Superman is the definition of a lot of things - including power and empathy - but he isn't a god of speed like Barry or Wally or Jay.
Also, The Hulk will always beat the Thing when it comes to raw power, but Ben Grimm can always win if he actually uses his smarts.
And Iron Man could totally defeat the X-Men if he had enough prep time to dead with each individual threat. If he doesn't, Wolverine just guts him like a fish.
