Lost in the library (part 6 of 13) - The True Death of Billy The Kid

The True Death of Billy the Kid
By Rick Geary

Geary’s historical true crime books have always been grimly fascinating, and the best of them have unearthed details of horrific crimes from long ago, all presented with his usual super-cute cherubic figures doing terrible things with knife and gun.

But getting to the truth behind Billy the Kid, after a century and a half of mythologizing and sundry storytelling, that takes some proper fortitude, and Geary delivers this with the usual aplomb in this book.

I’m sure he didn’t get it all right, but he shows his working, and it certainly feels more true than most other accounts of the life and death of William Bonney. The details will never be clear, but sometimes that’s enough.
