At least it's not using some of those terrible scripts that were making the Hollywood rounds for many years.

The thing is, the original comic is so rich, dense and layered that if the movie picks up a fraction of that complexity than it will still stand out amongst the usual summer blockbusters as something that has a brain.

I really have no idea what to expect from the movie, although I doubt there will be much boredom, because they are going to have to zip through the events so quickly to fit them all in. It just remains to be seen whether an audience can give a shit about the story when it is presented in this way...Bob Temukahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09181473725170489213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5394310461939093453.post-83060739463728824402009-02-07T00:26:00.000+13:002009-02-07T00:26:00.000+13:00I don’t dislike Snyder’s work as a whole, although...I don’t dislike Snyder’s work as a whole, although I did kinda hate 300, but I’m reluctant to get my hopes up on this one, partly because I’ve moved beyond seeing filmic adaptations of comic books as stamps of cultural approval, or as fundamentally more entertaining than their 2D source material, and partly because I’m not really sure Snyder is going to produce the movie that I would want to see.

I’m sure he is going to stick to the plot, and it’s nice that he’s fought battles to keep fan-favourite (ugh, hate that term, but cannot. Resist. Urge. To. Use. It) scenes in, but to quote Amy over on Barbelith I worry that “this is going to be a film about how COOL Watchmen is”, that there will be much “spunking over the ur-text”. Snyder’s trademark slo-mo effect being used to delineate key panels from the comic rather fuels the fire. Rorschach’s voice also signposts for me a certain lack of imagination and creative daring.

Yeah, yeah, I haven’t even seen the bloody film…Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
